Frequently Asked Questions

Signs that a child could benefit from therapy varies from child to child. Some major things to watch for include shifts in behavior (acting out or withdrawing), trouble with sleep – too much or too little, increase in worries and fears and difficulties with relationships. You know your child best and can trust your instincts when you feel like your child is struggling and could use some support outside of your family.

Absolutely not! Many kids are in need of support that can be offered through therapy, especially after the last few years we have all experienced together. Therapy gives a child a safe and protected space to express their feelings, develop new insights and learn new ways to cope with the stress of life. You are the expert of your child and your therapist is an additional layer of support for your child.

Honesty and openness are the key here. It is important for your child to know that there is nothing ‘wrong’ with them. It is so helpful to normalize their nervous feelings and let them know that therapy is a safe space for them to talk openly about their feelings and experiences. Also, let them know that therapy can be a lot of fun and that they will have opportunities to openly play, create and use their imaginations.
